Military Style Coats and Jackets

The fashion trend with military style jackets seems to be one that sticks around. It has slumps in its popularity, but it is again having a comeback. A great coat  military jacket is the key piece for the Autumn /Fall / Winter. No matter your cost range, you're certain to find one in a style that you like.
With any trend, it’s important to keep it simple or risk looking like you’re ready to enroll in the army
On the models from Fashion Week are seen wearing this style, a lot of people start looking for these designs. They are very versatile, since you can wear them with just a t-shirt and jeans and it will still look great!

What I am Reading

The Year Of The Mayan ProphecyIn 2006 the fringe scholar Daniel Pinchbeck, released his second book, one devoted to the subject of 2012. A literary and metaphysical epic that binds together the cosmological phenomena of our time to support the contention of the Mayan calendar that the year 2012 portends an unprecedented global shift.2012 is a book embedded within the current eschatological climate of terrorism, Iraq, peak oil and global warming gone mad. Pinchbeck's observations on these topics range from the bland - for example, the usual 'sermonizing' about global warming, with little reference to the underlying debates - to the extremely insightful such as his discussion of Nietzsche’s ideas of "will to ignorance" and "will to superficiality", which perhaps provide no better description of the bizarre current global mood of ambivalence and apathy, as world leaders wage wars based on obvious lies.he must be praised for sections discussing the philosophies of Herbert Marcuse - on the failure of industrialization and our indoctrination into what is an irrational system - and most especially Jean Gebser's idea that humanity passes through different consciousness structures, each with "a profoundly different realization of time and space" and that new forms of consciousness arise as sudden mutations. The discussion of Gebser's thoughts in terms of the industrial revolution ( "What led to the invention of the machine? The breaking forth of time?") and how our modern mindset is to the constant acceleration of production and efficiency, certainly resonated with me as a major fault of our current 'consciousness'.

MaxMara Autumn/Winter 2012

Warm military-style coats top slim-line tweed shorts and light-weight sweaters at MaxMara autumn/winter 2012.Whilst makeup maestro Tom Pecheux (MAC) drew inspiration from the German Expressionists' cinematic movement when creating the Max Mara makeup palette for Autumn/Winter 2012, Luigi Murenu (John Frieda) wanted to create a strong, masculine hairstyle in the front, but leave things feminine in the back. See how their visions were translated on the runway now

Stella McCartney Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

Stella McCartney decided to forgo her usual show in Paris for an intimate and unorthodox dinner presentation in London. Rihanna, Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Simon Le Bon were among the celebrities who turned out for an event which showcased McCartney's eveningwear collection against a backdrop of magic and performance art.

What was billed as a formal event with a black-tie dress code segued into a piece of interactive performance art. Beginning at 8pm with a sit-down dinner it had become, by 11pm, a circus starring supermodels. "This is London," said McCartney. "I wanted to do something bold."

This was McCartney's first London catwalk show in 16 years. After being hired by the French label Chloé in her early 20s, McCartney has shown her collections on the Paris catwalks. The Stella McCartney label, now a decade old, is presented at the Paris Opera. But in a coup for London Fashion Week, McCartney decided to celebrate her role designing for Team GB in this summer's Olympics with this one-off return to London, presenting a collection of evening wear.

It was one of the elite number of catwalk shows which will go down in fashion history. Like Alexander McQueen's asylum-themed show in London in September 2000, or Tom Ford's New York comeback show featuring Beyoncé in September 2010, it was a night to remember. "I wanted to do something special to celebrate being back in London," said McCartney. "I love magic, and that was pretty magic."

The BFC announces Alexa Chung as Young Style Ambassador

The British Fashion Council (BFC) is pleased to announce today the appointment of Alexa Chung as BFC Young Style Ambassador. Alexa, two times winner of the Vodafone British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards is the epitome of ‘London style’ and is known internationally as a fashion icon.

Through her work as a TV presenter and model, Alexa Chung is a hugely influential figure in the fashion industry, and is a great representative for London as a leading creative fashion capital. Alexa regularly receives praise for championing London’s most up and coming design talents and having appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar; she has been a brand ambassador for multiple labels and muse to designers because of her distinctive personal style.

Through her new role as ambassador, Alexa will support the British Fashion Council as it continues to promote British fashion design talent to a global market.

Alexa Chung comments “I always name London first when asked which city in the world has the best style. There's something so inherently rebellious about how people naturally style themselves. Brits aren't afraid to experiment or take risks with how they look, perhaps that's why London has always been home to the most dynamic and daring designers in the world. I adore fashion and am proud that it's now officially my job to champion those London designers both new and established that inspire me so much.”
