Gucci Vs Guess

Another day, another alleged copyright infringement in fashion land. This time it's Gucci taking Guess to task over the ownership of the letter 'G' and other eye-rollingly 'iconic' design elements. The eye-rolling becomes eye-watering, however, once the numbers start racking up. Gucci is accusing Guess of infringing Gucci's designs to the tune of $221 million.
Like most infringement battles, this is a long-running saga. In 2009 Gucci, acquired by French holding company PPR in 1999 as part of Gucci Group, sued Guess, claiming that the Los Angeles-based company was selling pieces online and in store with logos that are "studied imitations of the Gucci trademarks." These trademarks include the classic square 'G', the diamond-shaped repeating pattern with interlocking G's, the designer's name in the script font, and the green and red stripe design.
Guess? said in court papers that Gucci can’t claim infringement because it “sat on its rights” for at least seven years before suing.
